Have you ever been in a conversation with someone and when they finally get what you’re saying they say “oh, now I see”? The eyes of their understanding have opened and they can comprehend exactly what you are talking about, it is a moment of clarity. However, before that moment it was really hard to get on the same page, you kept trying to explain your point or perspective, you would say, “let me put it another way”, “what I am trying to say is”, or you use an analogy – bird goes to nest like my point should make sense to you by now! Well, as I was reading the last two chapters of Greater by Steven Furtick, I thought wow this must be how my conversations with God go sometimes. You see, we were reading about Elisha and his servant in 2Kings 6:8-18 – They were surrounded by the king of Aram’s army who were seeking to capture and kill Elisha. When his servant went outside and saw the army he was not a happy camper, I am sure he had an OMG, what are we going to do, why me Lord kinda moment! However, Elisha was calm and told him not to worry, don’t be afraid because those who were with them were greater than the army, Now I can just imagine the thoughts that must have ran through his servants mind – Are you blind? Are you crazy? Do you not understand the words that are coming out of my mouth? You see Elisha’s eyes were open to the undeniable realness of our God. The eyes of his heart, of his understanding had 20 20 vision. I imagine Elisha just smiled as he prayed “Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see” (2Kings 6:17). God answered Elisha’s prayer immediately and his servant’s eyes were open and he saw the hills filled with God’s horses and chariots of fire. I am sure the young man probably said “oh, now I see”. Friends, I realized I do this! I step outside and I am faced with all my problems, challenges, circumstances and I feel like Elisha’s servant – you know – OMG, what am I going to do, why me Lord kinda moment! While God is saying greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world, you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you; I will supply all of your needs, etc. But sometimes, the eyes of my understanding are not open and I need someone to pray Elisha’s prayer for me! I would be so bold and say some of you may need that prayer as well. So I decided to pray it for all of us!
Father God, open our eyes so we may see how your Grace, Love, Mercy, and Provision, is
greater than any army we may face in this life! Father, Now We See!
Amen.
