I had the pleasure of reading a new book by Lara Williams entitled “To Walk or Stay”. On the surface, before you begin to dive in, the book may seem as though it is focused only on marriage and how to overcome infidelity with God’s help. You may even think it is a “for married women only” book. Well friends that is the furthest thing from the truth. This book is not just for married women, it is for all women. Yes it does discuss marriage and overcoming infidelity, however, what it does even more than that - is it outlines Lara’s amazing spiritual journey in the mist of pain and betrayal and proves once again just how faithful our God is. As I began to write this review I kept thinking - how am I going to cover all of the amazing things this book has to offer? The reality is I can’t, but I can share with you the three major things that made this book awesome for me and hopefully it will inspire you to read it and discover what will make it awesome for you. So here it goes…..
- I believe as women (especially Christian women) we are faced with unique struggles at times. Lara’s book reminded me how as women, in all of our uniqueness we share common struggles, and we have similar battles. Regardless of our status, location, race, married or not – we can relate on a variety of levels. Lara discusses how this time in her life, this painful challenging experience grew her as a woman of God – how awesome is that? She touched on so many issues that stuck out to me because I know from personal and professional experience most women can relate, issues like:
Falling prey to the enemy’s lies
The struggle to simply believe God’s word
Reliving past wounds
The deadly weapon of comparison
Lara not only discussed those struggles and many more, she also shared how God helped her to begin to deal with those areas in her life.
- One of the things I loved about To Walk or Stay was the discussion questions and the “Digging Deeper” portions of the book. I love when a book or should I say an author is willing to go further with you, at least in spirit. When it not only inspires you but gives you the tools to take all that you are gleaning to the next level in your life in a practical way. I just love that – it is like an author is saying “I am willing to invest in you –are you?”
- The use of scripture was so inspiring. I love it when a Christian author leads me back to the word.
Well friends I must say that this book is truly God-honoring. It inspires you to draw closer to God. I have highlighted and made notes throughout the chapters. This is the kind of book you come back to, the kind you read again. I encourage you to not only pick up your copy but visit Lara at her blog – To Overflowing.
