I don’t know about you but I am so excited about 2013!! I know many people are taking the time to set goals for the New Year. Many people have evaluated 2012, counted their blessings, and set their eyes on new victories for this upcoming year…I know I have! There are goals that I have this year for my daughter, blog, finances, and job, to name a few. However, the foundation of my life, let alone this upcoming year, is my relationship with God. So as I begin to envision this upcoming year, that is where I start! I start with asking myself some honest questions. How do I continue to nurture my relationship with God? How do I continue to position myself as a servant, as His vessel? As I mentioned in my previous post, I realized, as I counted my blessings, that 2012 was the year of answered prayer. I thought about that a lot, and I asked God to give me a glimpse of what 2013 will be for me, just a glimpse. I asked him to speak to my heart about what I should focus on this upcoming year? How to prepare myself for his use of me? How to draw closer to him? Guess what friends…. He responded, He told me to be purposeful this year. Webster defines purposeful as having a meaningful purpose, being intentional, full of determination. Did you know that the opposite of purposeful is wavering, indecisive, vacillating, being double minded? So my God was telling me to be purposeful this year, be intentional in the things that concerns him, to not be double minded! WOW….. it always amazes me how God doesn’t have to lecture you to give you a word full of life, He doesn’t have to be long winded, lol! This year, I am going to be purposeful in all that I do. More specifically, I will be intentional and purposeful in how I:
- Feed my spirit – feasting on the word of God & renewing my mind to His word is a top priority for me especially this upcoming year. Now this is a practice we do all the time as believers however, I feel like God wants me to completely soak myself in his word. I keep imagining a huge pool full of God’s presence, word, love, revelation and He keeps telling me to Jump in head first. I am going to dig into God’s word like never before, reading, meditating, and speaking his word!
- Parenting – God has been speaking to me over the last few months of 2012 regarding parenting (which I will be sharing with you later on in the new year). I am going to be even more purposeful and intentional in how I instill God’s word in my daughter, how I invest in her, how I teach her to be a woman of God.
- Praying – spending time in prayer, intentional purposeful time conversing with God and praying for others. God has been speaking to me about the importance of prayer & standing in the gap for others. Also, praying for this world and those in it, for people who are facing horrific realities.
- Winning lives for Christ – I am going to share God’s salvation more. When the Holy Spirit prompts me to talk with someone about Jesus and His gift of salvation, I will not be hesitant; I will be obedient. I want to be more focused on the Kingdom and sharing God’s grace!
There are other areas in my life in which I plan to be purposeful as well but I wanted to share a few of them with you all. Now don’t get me wrong, I am not being ritualistic or mechanical about this; I am just being intentional. We tend to apply our effort, time, and energy to the things/people that matter the most to us – God is that for me! I encourage you all to go into your quiet place with the lord and surrender this year to Him. Ask him to open your eyes to how he will use you this year and show you how to prepare. Ask yourself - How can you nurture your relationship with God? What is
your vision for 2013? What are you committing to this year? What is God saying to you regarding this upcoming year? As we move into 2013 together, I have my neck stretched out and eyes open wide to see how God will move through us all as we be about our Father’s business!
Father God, I pray that you will open the eyes of our understanding so
that we may know your will for our lives. I pray that you will draw us even
closer to you and use us each to share your word & salvation. I pray that
we will all be victorious in our endeavors and demonstrate your love and grace
as we move through 2013! Thank you Father for your faithfulness, love, divine
protection, and guidance! Each day is a blessing from you and we surrender our
time, to-do list, dreams, goals, and 2013 to you.
In Jesus name I pray,
